Derek Porter won gold 14 years ago in rowing, representing Canada. Then he became a chiropractor. Now he’s 38, and he’s returned to rowing, hoping to represent Canada at the Beijing Summer Olympics in 2008.
This is one of the things I love about the Olympics. You get “regular” guys who can compete at a World-class level, but they do it in addition to having a life. The age at which athletes can continue to compete in the Olympics just keeps going up. I don’t think we’ll see any 30 year old gymnasts any time soon, but it will be interested to see who the oldest Summer Olympian is.
