Will E.T. phone home at the 2008 Beijing Olympics? It’s possible. Steven Spielberg and Chinese director Zhang Yimou (House of Flying Daggers) have signed on to direct the opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics. Zhang will serve as the chief director, while Spielberg will serve as artistic advisor. Australian Richard Birch, who directed the highly praised opening and closing ceremonies of the 2000 Sydney Olympics, and Yves Pepin, president of French company ECA2, will also be advisers.

Albert Speer has been a very talented architect who worked with Hitler to reshape Berlin into the capital of the 3rd Reich. His son Albert Speer is now one of the main architects that China’s leadership has hired to let the new Beijing shine in 2008.
It is a very weird coincidence that Spielberg and Speer are working for a project that is solely intended to spread the propaganda of the current regime in China. Is 1936 repeating?
It has been repeatedly said that China’s policy in Tibet has traits of genocide. As a person with Jewish background Spielberg should be a bit more sensitive to the political issues surrounding Beijing 2008 and pull back. For his own sake!
That is a really interesting statement. I hadn’t really thought about it in that way, but I have to say that it does make me a bit uncomfortable.
I take it you’re in China, from your email address?
