2008 Summer Olympics Facts
Here are some fun facts about the upcoming 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China…
The 2008 Summer Olympics will be held from August 8, 2008 to August 24, 2008.
The Slogan for the 2008 Summer Olympics is One World, One Dream.
Nine new sports will be introduced in the 2008 Summer Olympic Games. This includes two new events from the new bicycling discipline of BMX. A new marathon swimming event has been added for men and women. Women will compete in the 3000m steeplechase (a sort of obstacle course) for the first time. Doubles Table tennis is being replaced with team table tennis. Laslty, women’s team foil and women’s team sabre are replacing other team fencing events.
There are talks of boycotts because of China’s less than stellar humanitarian history and because of the Chinese Government’s current treatment of protesters in Tibet. Barring major boycotts, more than 200 countries are scheduled to participate in the 2008 Olympics.
